The city of Bordeaux's destiny, as well as
its name, is forever linked to that of its wine.
Thanks to Bordeaux's role in the
international wine trade, its membership in the Great Wine Capitals network,
and events such as Vinexpo and the en primeur tastings that attract thousands
of professionals from all over the world, Bordeaux is at the heart of
everything to do with wine. With prestigious terroirs and famous châteaux, as well as négociants, oenologists and winegrowers with centuries of tradition
behind them, Bordeaux has spread the science and love of wine around the world.
The region's wine roads have been travelled by connoisseurs from every continent,
and celebrations such as the Bordeaux Wine Festival also bolster the city's
title as the cultural capital of wine.
However, until now, the city has lacked an
emblematic location to reflect this reality. This is why we are currently
actively working towards creating such a place, with support from the entire
wine industry.
Ambitious, surprising and innovative, the
future Wine Culture and Tourism Centre will be a major facility of
international stature. It will be open to people of all different backgrounds:
wine enthusiasts who want to have a better understanding of the great terroirs of Bordeaux and other regions,
connoisseurs from around the world who enjoy tasting and appreciating fine
wine, and everyone who is interested in learning about different life styles,
histories, and experiences.
This exciting new centre will open in 2014
to offer visitors an entertaining voyage of discovery. Until then, I ask all of
you to work towards the fruition of this project and to help make this dream
come true.
Ms Sylvie Cazes,
Municipal Councillor of the City of Bordeaux
President of the Wine Culture and Tourism Centre Association
